FAQ's
Where are you located and how do I get there?
Rogue River Raft Trips is based out of Morrison’s Rogue River Lodge in Merlin, Oregon.
Morrison's Lodge is located 16 miles northwest of Grants Pass, OR.
See our Directions page for more specific instructions.
Where should I lodge the night before?
Because we launch from our private beach at Morrison’s we suggest you lodge here the night before your trip. This is truly a hassle free option. The day you arrive you will attend our orientation meeting at 5:45 p.m., where you will be issued your splash jacket and day bag. After you enjoy a gourmet dinner on our deck overlooking the river, you will have plenty of time to enjoy the grounds and prepare your gear for the morning. The next morning, just drop your luggage with the guides and head in to enjoy a full country breakfast. No stuffing your belonging in a dry bag at the river’s edge. After breakfast you’ll check out of your room and head down to the beach for the final instructions and to receive your life jackets. You won’t have to worry about meeting on time or have the hassle of shuttling your vehicle, which will be safely kept in our parking lot while you are downriver.
Please visit the Morrison's Lodge site for current rates & availability.
Is there an age limit to participate? Yes.
Day trip participants must be at least three years old. Multi-day trip participants must be at least six years old. This is for the safety and enjoyment of the child and parents.
Can I cancel my trip?
Day Trips : Yes
Your deposit, minus a 6% processing fee, is refundable up to 72 hours before your scheduled trip. Reservations cancelled within the 72 hours will be forfeited.
Multi-Day Trips
Because of our commitment to obtaining river permits, to our guides and the type of adventure, all deposit and balance payments are non refundable.
However, if you need to cancel and have not purchased travel insurance, a substitute party may take your reservations or you may reschedule your trip within the same calendar year, on a space available basis.
If you cannot afford to lose your trip investment we strongly suggest that you purchase trip insurance.
We have worked with Travel Ex Insurance Services, but there are many companies offering this type of insurance. Our location information is Morrison’s Rogue River Lodge: 37-6034.
What Time Will Your Trip End?
Three Day Trips
You will return to Morrison’s Lodge between 4:30 and 5:30 pm on the last day of the trip. This will depend on what time you get off the river. There is about a 2-1/2 hour shuttle drive from the take out at Foster Bar.
Day Trips
AM trips return to Morrison’s Lodge between 11:30 am and Noon. Lunch follows on the deck.
PM and Full Day trips return to Morrison’s Lodge between 3:30 and 4:30 pm depending upon the river flow and lower canyon winds.
What do the rapid classes mean?
Rivers are classified in the same way across the world. There are six basic classifications. These descriptions are in layman terms:
- Class I – The easiest. Like a speed bump on a river.
- Class II – These are bit more adventurous than Class I, but not much.
- Class III – Now you’re starting to have fun. You will get water in the boat and thrown around a bit. This is definitely the first stage where your adrenaline gets going.
- Class IV – This is the level you see on television shows. The adrenaline is definitely flowing.
- Class V – These rapids are not actually much worse than a Class IV, but they typically run longer distances and require greater skill.
- Class VI – Insane.

What is the weather like?
The weather on the Rogue River is generally warm and sunny during the summer months, with averages in the low 50’s and high 80’s. The June and September trips can be as warm and sunny as the summer but we can also get some cooler, rainy days, with averages in the high 40’s for the lows and low 80’s for the highs.
What type of clothing should I wear?
We suggest you layer clothing over your swimsuit to accommodate temperature changes from morning to afternoon. You will have a place to store this clothing on the boat as you discard. Rafting clothes will get wet. Choose light weight materials that will dry quickly. Cotton materials, such as jeans or sweats, are poor choices as they take a long time to dry.
Synthetic materials, such as nylon, dry quickly. If you are sensitive to the sun, we suggest a long sleeve shirt and long pants of a light synthetic material, such as supplex. Zip-off pants are great!
We will provide farmer john wet suits and splash jackets for all rafters, at no charge. As the weather gets warmer, wet suits may be too warm to wear, however, splash jackets are available and can be used for cool mornings all summer.
What should I bring?
See our Trip Planning download for specific details.
In case of an emergency, can I be reached on the river? Yes.
Not immediately, but you can be reached. You family member or friend can call Morrison’s Lodge – 800-826-1963. We can then relay a message to the downriver lodge where you will be staying.
What if I have a medical condition, can I still participate?
Rafting down the lower Rogue River canyon is quite a relaxing activity with a wide range of engagement.
We do have a bit of hiking on uneven surfaces, mostly on the first day. If you have a medical condition or limitation, including pregnancy, you should consult your physician and talk with our staff in detail about your medical needs.
